An exciting development from 2022 into 2023 was THUG.TV’s OpenSim grid, our community side project. The team introduced an experimental hypergrid server, fostering fully funded metaverse art projects led by volunteer community members. The OpenSim project aimed to examine the architecture of platforms like Second Life, acting as a reference for the development of a THUG.TV metaverse on Unreal Engine 5.
The OpenSim grid, connected through the Hypergrid, became a hub for creativity and collaboration, attracting remarkable individuals who have now become permanent members of the THUG.TV community. Although OpenSim registration has been momentarily disabled on our main website, users can currently register by request through a support ticket on the Discord server. Our OpenSim grid can also be accessed by registering to any other OpenSim grid that is part of the Hypergrid.
Our grid has been sponsored by Vivox voice services since around 2012, and can effortlessly accommodate thousands of users. Through the establishment of a new Perforce server, our development team now efficiently manages and organizes all versions of open source software, ensuring that we consistently operate on the latest and most stable releases. THUG.TV’s forward-looking approach includes plans for a comprehensive login API designed to seamlessly integrate all aspects of our website through a single, user-friendly login.
